Farmer Boys, a fast-casual American chain restaurant primarily operating in California, is preparing to open a new location in Surprise.

Scottsdale-based SimonCRE recently announced an update for the new Asante Trails retail development, which will invest $50 million in 50,000 square feet of space, according to the Phoenix Business Journal. The first round of tenants, including Farmer Boys, Jimmy Johns, and Baskin-Robbins, have been announced for development, along with services such as Circle K and Heartland Dental. The new Farmer Boys Surprise location will be corporate-owned.

“With these tenants joining the center, we’re building a dynamic retail center that will provide essential services and dining options to support the growth and vitality of the surrounding area,” Gottsacker tells the Business Journal in a statement.

This development is part of a larger 90-acre mixed-use project that will serve as the centerpiece for the Asante master-planned community. The project will include a new HonorHealth hospital covering 20 acres, residential housing on 26 acres, and an additional 35 acres dedicated to retail development. The developer anticipates beginning construction on the second phase of retail at Asante in early 2026. This phase will involve an investment of $50 million for 100,000 square feet of space across 20 acres. About 19,000 square feet in this phase are still available for lease.

This will be the company’s third location in Phoenix, with sites already in Tolleson and Gilbert. When the new Surprise location opens, customers can expect fresh-cooked, made-to-order food, focusing on breakfast, burgers, and other American comfort foods.
