After establishing itself in Tagaytay City, Philippines, Bag of Beans Cafe & Restaurant is ready to open in Chula Vista at 872 Eastlake Parkway STE 310.
The family-run company’s first U.S. location is set to open in the former home of Phở Hiệp & Grill 2 in the Village Walk at Eastlake, according to a recent liquor license application. This Bag of Beans Cafe & Restaurant will be owned and operated by Anthony Jose, who tells What Now San Diego that this location is expected to open in Spring 2025. Jose says this is the first of many, with plans to expand the brand throughout the U.S. Bag of Beans is also working on opening a handful of new sites in the Philippines.
Jose graduated from UCSD and worked in biotechnology in Seattle and Carlsbad before dedicating himself to expanding Bag of Beans. The enthusiastic restaurateur traveled to the Philippines to prepare for this role, where he trained with some of the country’s finest chefs. After honing his skills, he returned to the States and is ready to launch a new coffee brand in San Diego. The new cafe will offer baked goods, breakfast/lunch/dinner inspired by Filipino cuisine, and cafe/coffee products.
“A new chapter unfolds as we prepare to open our doors in our San Diego branch,” according to the company’s social media announcement. “We invite you to join us in savoring exquisite flavors and cherished traditions soon.”
This isn’t the only new coffee brand debuting in San Diego. Last week, What Now San Diego reported that Excelsa Coffee Company is opening the first U.S. café exclusively dedicated to the unique Excelsa coffee bean in Ocean Beach at 1855 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Both concepts are expected to open in Spring, so San Diego will soon have new coffee choices.
