Owner and Chef Josh Steiner plans to open his fresh seed-to-plate concept, Hive Bagel & Deli, this spring at 276 S. Front Street, Ste. 105, in Downtown Memphis.
Currently operating out of his Midtown commercial kitchen and offering limited hours for pick-up orders, Steiner looks forward to serving the Memphis metro from his new corner shop beginning in April or May.
“I am hoping to fill the much-needed hole of a fresh bagel shop in our city,” Steiner tells What Now Memphis.
Previously, Steiner prepared Italian fare at Strano! Sicilian Kitchen & Bar, and later at Strano by Chef Josh. Both restaurants featured housemade bread, pizza and desserts.
Steiner discovered a passion for baking that, together with his beekeeping hobby, led him to the idea of Hive Bagel & Deli. He adds honey to the boiling water his bagels are cooked in, giving them a unique flavor and crust. His goal is to implement local ingredients, including honey and wheat, into all his bakery offerings.
The fresh-baked menu will feature handcrafted bagels, sandwiches and Viennoiseries (Viennese-style baked goods such as croissants, baguettes and more), as well as flavored cream cheese spreads including Strawberry, Jalapeno, and Bacon and Cheddar.
