JEM Dining, a private dining and supper club pop-up focusing on fine dining, appears to be working on a new brick-and-mortar in Downtown Memphis at 644 Madison Ave. #102.
Owner and chef Joshua Mutchnick recently submitted plans for a commercial alteration permit for a small restaurant with an open commercial kitchen and bar, according to permit details. The new restaurant will sit next to Rootstock Wine Merchants. Mutchnick tells What Now Memphis that there are many factors in play at the moment, so he wasn’t able to provide additional details. If permits are approved and when the restaurant opens, customers can expect a unique fine dining experience not often found in Memphis.
Chef Mutchnick has been cooking his entire life, working with some of the top chefs in the country, he has been cooking in Chicago, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. Born and raised in the coastal city of Mobile, Alabama, Mutchnick started his career with an internship under Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Eventually, he moved to Washington, D.C. to work under the prestigious chefs José Andrés and Michel Richard. In Chicago, the chef worked at the acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant North Pond with the James Beard Award-winning and Michelin Starred chef Bruce Sherman, as well as at Sixteen, a 2-starred Michelin-rated restaurant. After nearly a decade of living in Chicago, Chef Josh and his wife, Emily, decided to plant roots in Memphis for its personality and soul.
“Food can be fun and comforting while still being refined and luxurious,” according to the company’s website. “Service can be personable and relaxed while still being detailed and precise.
