It looks like an African grocery store is currently in the process of transforming into an Ethiopian restaurant. Mammy’s Dish Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar is set to replace TAPS African Grocery and Meat at 6349 Summer Ave #102 near Bartlett, as indicated by permits filed with Develop901.

While Tiru Birhane, the permit’s applicant, has not responded to requests for comment from What Now Memphis, public records indicate that the individual owns both the new eatery and the current grocery store.

Although details about the restaurant are sparse, the name suggests a focus on traditional Ethiopian dishes such as vegetable curry and spicy stew, complemented by a full bar.

It remains unclear whether Mammy’s Dish Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar will replace the grocery store entirely, or if the two businesses will operate simultaneously. Keep an eye out for more details as this project progresses.
