With two locations currently in operation—Downtown Denton and on Main St. in Denison—The Horse’s Axe is opening its first franchise location in McKinney.
Franchisees Jason Pearson and Andrew Duncan hope to open the McKinney spot in mid-January or early February, depending on permitting. Pearson, co-owner of Dragon Axe, LLC, told What Now Dallas it started as a hobby for the two of them and then they found out about the franchising opportunity.
Both of them each have nearly two decades of experience in education. Pearson was an 8th grade science teacher and instructional coach, and Duncan was a technology facilitator. “We stepped away from education just to give us a new challenge,” Pearson said. “We are super excited about it.”
The Horse’s Axe McKinney will be located at 212 E Louisiana St. They are looking to charge $25 per person per hour for axe throwing, and the grand opening will feature a discounted rate. “We’re a unique, axe throwing experience that we hope the whole family can enjoy,” Pearson said.
The Horse’s Axe McKinney won’t have a kitchen, but guests can bring in food. “Hopefully we’ll be able to work with other restaurants in the area,” he said, “and have it delivered in.” Bottled and canned beer, wine, seltzer, and ciders will be available for purchase.
