Middle Tennessee’s favorite Cali-Mex restaurant, Oscar’s Taco Shop, is set to open its 11th location in the state at 202 N Anderson Ln Suite 105 in Hendersonville later this year, according to recent permits. The new location comes from co-owner Enrique Ruiz, son of the founder Javier Ruiz Sr.
It’s likely that the new location may open later this fall, though an exact grand opening date is unknown. The lease for the 1,713-square-foot space was signed in August, indicating a construction timeline may take another 1-2 months before opening doors. The new Oscar’s Taco Shop will replace the former Penn Station East Coast Subs location and neighbor Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Nutrition Faktory in The Fountain at Indian Lake shopping complex.
The fast-casual brand has ten other locations across Music City and its suburbs, as well as four locations in Arizona. Known for its authentic and affordable options, Oscar’s Taco Shop boasts a wide variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Customers can choose their favorite meat option in any taco, burrito, nacho, quesadilla, fajita, salad, and loaded french fries, according to its online menu.
The brand has its roots in California and originally got its start from its predecessor Cotijas Taco Shop in the late 1980s. Founder Javier Ruiz Sr. immigrated to the United States and opened Cotijas in El Cajon, California with his brother David Ruiz. Now retired, Ruiz’s seven sons run the remaining locations of Oscar’s across Tennessee, Arizona, and an upcoming location in Alabama.
