Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is looking to make a foray into the Nashville market, permit filings show. A permit indicates that the ice cream chain has plans for interior renovations at 1200 Villa Place #113.

Founders Ben and Pete Van Leeuwen and Laura O’Neill started Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in a yellow truck in New York City in 2008. Their goal is to use simple ingredients — milk, cream, eggs and cane sugar — to make their selection of flavors, according to the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream website. The ice cream chain also offers vegan options.

“Good is choice ingredients. Even if we have to go to Mount Etna to get them,” the website states. “Good is simple ingredients. If it’s tough to pronounce, it’s probably tough to digest. Good is harmonious ingredients. We seek to satisfy omnivores and vegans alike. This is our way. The good way. The Van Leeuwen way. Not just the best way to make ice cream, but to live.”

The chain currently has more than 70 locations across eight states and Washington, D.C. It also plans to enter the Florida market soon. The location in Nashville would be the first spot for Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in Tennessee.

As of now, an opening timeline remains unknown. What Now Nashville reached out to company representatives for Van Leeuwen but had not received further details by the time of publication.
