Hawthorne-based Los Angeles Ale Works is expanding to new locations in Boyle Heights and then Culver City.
The company plans to first start with Boyle Heights, located at 2350 Sunrise St., replacing Indie Brewing Company, according to Eater LA. Los Angeles Ale Works acquired the property earlier this year and expects to open in the next few weeks. Then, coming Summer 2022, the company will open a new location in Culver City’s Ivy Station development, located at 8840 National Blvd. Managing partner Andrew Fowler is in charge of the two new sites. LA Ale Works will join Equator Coffee and Sweetfin in the shopping center.
Founder Kristofor (Kip) Barnes first started the company in 2010 before launching its first beer three years later following a successful Kickstarter fundraiser. In 2015, Barnes teamed up with Fowler to strengthen the organization’s business side. The two successfully raised capital, secured a new home in Hawthorne, California, and prepared for its brick and mortar grand opening at the start of 2017. This became the first brewery and tasting room in Hawthorne.
Los Angeles Ale Works also has a rotating food truck that can be found throughout Los Angeles daily. The company’s current Hawthorne location has 25 taps at the tasting room that frequently changes, ranging from light beer, hoppy beer, dark beer, and sours. Most beers are available to fill in crowlers, growlers, and kegs to-go.
