Latino-owned Brown Soul Brewing Co. is coming soon to South Gate’s historic Tweedy Mile, located at 3606 Tweedy Blvd.
The new brewery will move into the former home of Shoe Port at the corner of Tweedy and San Antonio Ave. Co-owner Victor Zamudio tells What Now Los Angeles he hopes to open the new brewery in late fall 2022. He says the company has all its equipment ready and is in the final stages of permitting and construction. When Brown Soul Brewery opens later this year, customers can expect delicious food and beer in an environment that is welcoming for all adults.
Zamudio hopes this new brewery will also serve as a community hub for South Gate, bringing people together through the enjoyment and education of artisanal craft beer. The brewery, co-owned by Hugo Sanchez, Dora Mejia, and Noe Tellez, will also serve classic Mexican dishes, such as chilaquiles, representing the ownership’s strong upbringing in South Gate and Los Angeles County. Eventually, the owners plan to share the space with vendors by regularly hosting pop-ups.
The Latino-inspired space brewery will have a strong team behind it. Sanchez, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and producer of multiple major Food Network shows, including “Iron Chef” and Netflix’s “Nailed It,” has opened several restaurants throughout Los Angeles County. Zamudio, Sanchez’s brother, owns the CrossFit gym next to the brewery. Mejia, who launched a home-based catering business specializing in Mariscos, will be in charge of the culinary side. Finally, Tellez will become the head brewer, a role he previously had at Angry Horse in Montebello.
