Cheat’s Cheesesteak Parlor is getting ready to expand to a new location in South End at 2127 Hawkins St.
The company’s second location is expected to move onto a 0.47-acre parcel in the Rail Trail, next to Portman Holdings’ The Line, according to Charlotte Business Journal. 1957 Hospitality Group is pending permit approval from the city of Charlotte for a new 1,000-square-foot walk-up restaurant. There is no exact opening date, but the news proves the concept is popular, considering the group launched the restaurant last summer near the Plaza Midwood and Elizabeth neighborhoods.
Cheat’s started as a pop-up during the pandemic and eventually made its way into local breweries. Customers quickly became fascinated with the fine-dining approach within the fast-casual environment while using high-quality ingredients. The restaurant offers classic “wit-whiz” cheesesteaks made with pepper, mushroom, chicken, and Cali-style versions available on rolls from Liscio’s Bakery in Philadelphia. Cheat’s Cheesesteak also offers a variety of other sandwiches and sides, such as loaded cheesesteak fries and hot pretzel bites.
1957 Hospitality Group is responsible for some of North Carolina’s premier restaurants, such as The Crunkleton and Rosemont Market and Wine Bar. The group is also working on a new concept called Puerta coming to Elizabeth this winter. While the group should see no problem getting people in the door with this new location, they will have to go toe-to-toe with fierce competitors, such as Big Dave’s Cheesesteak, which is opening its first location in Charlotte this year.
