ALDI, the German-born “world’s first discount grocery store,” has been appearing frequently in the news in recent months as the brand grows its Florida footprint, transitioning multiple Winn-Dixie stores to the ALDI brand. What Now reported recently on a new ALDI replacing the Winn-Dixie at 951 W State Rd 434 in Longwood (one of seven planned transitions in Central Florida, according to the Orlando Business Journal).
Last week, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported on plans for another conversion, this time in St. Petersburg, at 1049 62nd Ave N.
“There are nearly 300 Aldi stores in Florida, and this location will be the sixth in St. Pete,” the coverage says.
The Winn-Dixie in question is part of the Rutland Plaza shopping center. There, ALDI will join retailers like Modern Nest Furniture, Bealls, and Pet Supplies Plus, along with restaurants like Super Buffet.
“For over 40 years, we have stuck to the same guiding principle: great quality should come with everyday low prices,” says the ALDI website. “We keep a close eye on the ingredients and materials that go into all our products to ensure they meet the highest standards.”
Conversion of the Winn-Dixie to ALDI is expected to reach completion sometime next year.
