The anchor space that formerly housed Sears at Lakeland Square Mall, the shopping center on the southwest corner of US Highway 98 and Sleepy Hill Road, has sat vacant since 2018, but now it’s about to get new life.
According to coverage on ReutersConnect.com, that space will soon be home to a new Rural King store.
A post in the What’s Up Polk County Facebook group also shared the news last month. The comments show a bit of buzz already forming.
“I welcome this!” said one commenter. “Been saying for years that a Rural King is needed on northside. The Zephyrhills store is sub-par compared to the Lake Wales location, but Lake Wales is a bit of a drive unless you have a large shopping list.”
“I visited the RK location a few weeks ago at the Sebring store (They took over the Sears anchor),” said another. “It was my 1x visited an RK store. I was pretty impressed. It was like a sports store and Home Depot store rolled into 1 store. They also apparel, pets supplies, automotive, gardening supplies. It was a pretty descent size store even for Sebring.”
“Rural King, also known as RK Holdings, LLP, is America’s Farm and Home Store, and a General Merchandise and Department Store, providing essentials to the communities we serve,” says the Rural King website. “More specifically, we provide a broad range of necessities, essential goods, food, feed, seed and other farm and home products. Rural King planted its roots in Mattoon, Illinois in 1960… Our locations have an outstanding product mix with items such as livestock feed, farm equipment, agricultural parts, lawn mowers, workwear, fashion clothing, housewares and toys. You never know what you will find at your local Rural King and that’s why every trip is an adventure. Our friendly staff is dedicated to serving your needs and can help you find whatever you’re looking for.”
Opening in Lakeland Square Mall, Rural King will join retailers like Dillard’s, JCPenney, H&M, and lots more.
