The iconic Delaware pub, Old Bag of Nails Pub, closed its doors last week after more than 20 years of service. The restaurant shut down permanently as the owners were not able to finalize a long-term lease agreement with the landlord.
Old Bag of Nails Pub Bid Farewell to Delaware
The pub was located at 66 N. Sandusky St. in downtown Delaware. The restaurant team shared the closure announcement on Facebook. Old Bag of Nails Pub served the downtown Delaware community for the last time on Sunday, October 11.
In the post, the team explained, “We are unable to reach a long-term agreement with the landlord that would allow us to continue operations.”
Customers shared messages of disappointment on social media after the announcement.
“Sad to see you go, thanks for your service for all the past years. Loved your fish and chips and the best spinach salad. You will be missed,” commented a customer.
Another customer shared a heartfelt message and wrote, “We have been frequent diners since you opened. Our kids and now our grandkids love eating there. Best fish and chips, grilled fish tacos and fried mushrooms!”
About the Chain
The Old Bag of Nails Pub is a longtime favorite restaurant and pub chain and was founded in 1996. The chain began its journey by transforming a hardware store into a neighborhood tavern. It is well known for its British-inspired pub fare and classic American comfort food menu.
Old Bag of Nails Pub continues to operate locations across Ohio and Michigan, including restaurants in Westerville, Marysville, and Hilliard.
In the post, the team thanked the community for their support over the years. With an optimistic tone, the team added, “Should an opportunity present itself for an Old Bag of Nails Pub in Delaware in the future, we would be happy to return.”
