Popular sweet shop Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop is preparing to open a new location in Dilworth at 1913 Cleveland Ave.

The company’s newest location will move to the ground floor of a new building between Tremont and Worthington, near Dilworth Tasting Room. Floors two and three are still marked for lease, each possessing about 2,500 square feet of space, according to Jason Thomas, who first reported the news. Founder Meredith Layton tells What Now Charlotte this site will be owned by Scott and Jennifer Rea.

“Our project is currently in permitting with Mecklenburg County,” Jennifer Rea tells What Now Charlotte. “We are hoping to break ground on the construction of our new building sometime in Q1 2024. We plan to open our Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop on the first floor of our new building when construction is complete. Foundry Commercial is currently marketing our 2nd and 3rd floors for lease. I would say right now, the best case scenario for our pie shop opening would be Q1 2025, but it’s honestly really hard to know for sure until we actually break ground on the new building.”

The chain of pie shops was started in 2013 in Knoxville, Tenn., by Meredith and her husband, Scott. Now, ten years later, the company has expanded to seven different states with 16 locations. All sites feature a variety of delicious pies with daily flavors and seasonal favorites. These pies come in standard size, 9-inch, 4-inch, and 2-inch, with other delicious desserts such as cloud cookies.
