Two popular Ponte Vedra Beach hotels, Ponte Vedra Inn & Club at 200 Ponte Vedra Boulevard and The Lodge & Club at 607 Ponte Vedra Boulevard, are getting closer to upgrades.

The St. Johns County Planning & Zoning Agency voted 4-0 this week to recommend approval of the Planned Unit Development (2023-02), according to the Jacksonville Daily Record. This 30-year development and renovation plan will be broken up into phases, with each one being completed before the next one starts. Now that the hotels have received this recommendation, it must go before the St. Johns County Commission. If approved, the project will begin with the construction of a parking structure in January.

“We’re not taking too big of a chunk at a time for the redevelopment,” Michael Gordon, president of GATE Hospitality, which privately owns Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, tells the Ponte Vedra Record earlier this year. “If a building’s construction starts, it has to be built within three years. It’s going to be about two years estimated time to complete.”

There’s a lot going into the redevelopment of these hotels, including a new sports complex and surf club, a six-lane lap pool, yoga shops, and tennis and pickleball courts. Changes will also be made to the Seahorse Grille to have more space for larger weddings with an ocean-view ballroom. Artist renderings from JDR show upgrades to the Surf Deck Grille, but no additional details have been revealed.

“The Atlantic coastline serves as a dramatic backdrop for the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club’s signature restaurant offering an upscale but casual dining and cocktail experience,” according to Seahorse Grille’s website. “Serving up dramatic ocean views, dine surrounded by warm wood touches, an unforgettable wrap-around aquarium, and the pulse of conversation. Our talented Chef’s flavor-forward approach to cuisine results in boldly inspired flavors.”
