Berndt Ends BBQ, the delicious barbecue restaurant found within the Crown Point Plaza, looks to be trying to expand with a site in Palatka at 125 State Road 20.

Company owner Shaine Berndt recently submitted an incomplete plan review application to the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation. While the application must be completed before moving forward, it proves the company is interested in expanding in Northeast Florida. Once Berndt can move forward with the process, it will be a new construction permit, meaning it could take a few months before opening.

While the company waits to open a second location, customers can visit the original site within the Crown Point Plaza at 10131 San Jose Boulevard, offering low and slow-smoked meats with homemade sauces. The potential expansion would be a massive accomplishment for Berndt, who started the company as a food truck with a perfect inspection score before opening the first brick-and-mortar in the San Jose area. This is not the same as the Arkansas-based Burnt End BBQ.

The area where the owner is applying to open a new restaurant is in West Palatka, where it’s less densely populated but still has a variety of businesses nearby. The potential Berndt Ends BBQ will serve as a great lunch and dinner spot for those in the surrounding communities, such as the Silver Lake Oaks Mobile Home Community and the Oaks Landing Mobile Home Park. Another benefit of this site is that most restaurants are further east, making this the only eatery in the area.
