Business owners from Boston and beyond gathered on Thursday, October 24, to share insights and collaborate at one of What Now Media Group’s Accelerate events.
The free event at Tap 151 Bar and Grill, located at 151 N First Street, featured over twenty representatives from restaurants on What Now Boston and a handful of industry-leading experts from What Now Media Group’s network of Preferred Partners. Attendees mingled while enjoying bites and beverages before the restaurant’s owner, Davidson Bettero, introduced himself and welcomed guests into the restaurant, which opened this year.
Tap 151 Bar and Grill opened earlier this year in North Point, offering a relaxed dining experience. This 6,000-square-foot American bar and restaurant can accommodate over 300 guests and features a menu filled with pub favorites. It’s a fantastic neighborhood hub for watching sporting events or enjoying themed game nights.
The new restaurant, which opened in the vibrant Cambridge Crossing neighborhood, is open daily at 11 am and has everything one could ask for in a welcoming environment. Customers can expect a diverse menu, with plenty of craft beer options, TVs for any sporting event, and brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays. This restaurant is designed to be a high-spirited entertainment destination for people of all ages.
During a presentation by Caleb Spivak, the Founder and CEO of What Now Media Group, local entrepreneurs and business representatives shared their experiences. They updated their progress and reflected on the lessons from opening brick-and-mortar establishments in Boston. Key takeaways from the discussion included the importance of having a passion for achieving success, the necessity of pivoting effectively—especially in response to emergencies, and the significance of building connections within the community.
Another topic discussed was sales tax automation. We know that taxes are a monthly obligation that consumes your valuable time and money, and mistakes can be costly. Our partners at DAVO by Avalara offer a powerful tool that automates every step of the sales tax process—from collecting to filing to paying. It integrates seamlessly with your POS system, so there’s nothing you need to do once you’re set up.
DAVO simplifies sales tax management with a one-time setup process. Once you complete this simple setup, DAVO handles everything for you. They collect and set aside sales tax daily, using data from your POS system, so you don’t have to worry about having enough cash at the end of the month. Additionally, DAVO automatically files your state sales tax on time, guaranteed. Did you know that some states even offer a discount for on-time filing? If you’re interested in learning how to eliminate the stress of sales tax, visit our partners at DAVO or contact them directly for more information.
This is the type of essential service that restaurant owners can learn about at Accelerate events, where they can connect with service providers and experts who can solve their problems or questions.
Throughout the event, business owner and restaurant franchisees shared their experiences, both old and new, regarding how their business operations have gone since opening. Whether it was new business owners who have yet to open their first location or experienced veterans looking to expand nationally, the free event brought in a variety of eager entrepreneurs.
Representatives of Taco Johns, including a few employees, and Arsal Jaffery, the co-founder and CEO of Reliance Hospitality Group, were in attendance. Jaffery updated the group on the franchised concept. At the beginning of the year, the experienced business owner told What Now Boston that the upcoming outlet is just one of 22 planned for Massachusetts and Connecticut. The hospitality group is still working on opening its third Massachusetts location at 75 Summer St in Downtown Boston.
The co-owners of Turmeric House, Andy Pokhrel and Mahesh Shai, and Koushik “Babu” Koganti, the co-owner and CEO of Flying Lion Hospitality Group, who are responsible for several concepts, including Don’t Tell Aunty and Boston Halal, were also present to share their experiences.
Restaurant owners weren’t the only ones to share their knowledge with everyone. The free event featured a handful of industry-leading experts from What Now Media Group’s network of Preferred Partners. David Kellaway and Zac Feiden of Bluedrop Water introduced themselves to the group to tell them more about commercial water filtration and how it can affect your business.
Another great resource for restaurant owners at this event was Timothy Hayes with Heartland, who provided more information about the usefulness of POS Software. Mark Bergeron of Ecolab also provided more insights into water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions and services.
