Last week, the official Instagram account of the Judy Genshaft Honors College at USF Tampa announced that local roasters, Buddy Brew Coffee, will be the cafe keeping the building humming when it opens next May.

A representative of Buddy Brew Coffee did not immediately return a request for comment.

In a statement posted to USF’s website, Dean of the Judy Genshaft Honors College, Charles Adams said, “We are very excited about the selection of Buddy Brew Coffee for our new building. As a local business that prioritizes global sustainability, ethical sourcing, and community service, this company aligns perfectly with the values of our College.”

The first Buddy Brew Coffee outpost was opened by husband-and-wife founders, Dave and Susan Ward, in 2010, “with Dave as the lone employee, a coffee can as a cash register, and a single product – a $2 self-service ‘bottomless’ cup of coffee,” according to the company’s website

Since then, Buddy Brew Coffee has opened seven more locations throughout Tampa alongside numerous distribution deals at local grocers and was even named the 2022 Small Business of the Year by the Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
