A popular smoothie chain is bringing DC relief from the heat with a new location this summer. South Block, celebrated for its fresh, natural, and delicious treats, is preparing to refresh customers in its new home at 21st and M Streets, reports local media outlet PoPville.

The eatery-which is enjoying a busy 2024-is moving into the space at 2109 M Street that formerly housed a Starbucks. South Block founder and CEO Amir Mostafavi tells What Now DC that locals can look forward to enjoying smoothies and fruit bowls within the next few months. “We plan to open this summer… shooting for July!” he states.

The M Street location will be a homecoming of sorts for Mostafavi, taking him back to the same neighborhood where he served his first smoothie. “I opened my first smoothie shop a few clicks away on campus at GW in 2006.” he explains, adding “I have always loved this community and have just been waiting for the right opportunity!”

Summer will be a busy season for South Block; in addition to the M Street store, the eatery is opening a shop in Chantilly as well as beginning construction on locations at Fair City, Springfield, and Dulles.
