A popular Old Town coffee shop has big plans to breathe new life into a recently shuttered cafe space. Cafe du Soleil is making moves towards opening a new location in Alexandria, reports local media outlet ALXNow.

Cafe du Soleil’s owners have filed a special use permit to begin the transition process of the property at 720 Jefferson Street. The building previously housed Abyssinia Market, another coffee house, making the new tenants an obvious and perfect fit.

The special use permit heavily focuses on allowances for selling beer and wine, both to be taken away and consumed at the location. Additionally, Cafe du Soleil is requesting a change to the hours of operation from 7 am to 8 pm daily to 6 am to 10 pm daily.

The cafe, which has space for up to 20 guests, will also be welcoming some new equipment, should the special use permit receive approval. Cafe du Soleil is planning to add a Turbochef microwave oven, salad prep table and refrigerator, drink display case, and a small refrigerator.

Cafe du Soleil established itself as a local favorite through its commitment to sustainable, organic and delicious food that is made to order.
