Mike Finsilver, owner of popular food truck Hell Yeah Dog, is getting close to opening his first brick-and-mortar business, Tall Trees Cafe, at 817 Livernois St this fall. The cafe will serve Finsilver’s fan-favourite sandwiches that have been seen at pop-up collaborations with local businesses, including Secret Bakery in Ferndale and High Dive Bar in Hamtramck. This news was first seen on Eater Detroit.

It all began with the spicy mortadella sandwich, Finsilver’s original creation made with thinly-sliced mortadella, house-made bomba calabrese spread, topped with chopped iceberg lettuce salad and finished with creamy preserved lemon buttermilk dressing with Secret Bakery’s sesame semolina batards.

As the pop-ups garnered increasing public interest, Finsilver moved forward to opening his own space next door to Secret Bakery on Livernois Street. The menu includes the beloved spicy mortadella sandwich and a few more handhelds, seasonal soups, and salads with locally sourced ingredients, according to the Eater. Malgorzata Bitel, a previous Hell Yeah Dog manager, will oversee kitchen operations alongside Finsilver.

Though unable to provide a confirmed opening date, Finsilver told What Now Detroit over the phone that he is expecting to open the cafe in the Fall. Those interested in getting the first scoop of opening news can follow Tall Trees Cafe on Instagram.
