One of the fastest growing names on the ice cream scene is preparing to make sure Alexandria residents can all scream for the beloved treat. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has plans to bring its frosty scoops to an Old Town storefront, reports local media outlet ALXNow.
The sweet shop is part of a proposed overhaul of 400 King Street. Plans submitted to the City of Alexandria Board of Architectural Review show that relatively extensive renovations are being proposed for the space. Exterior alterations focus relatively heavily on the hanging of new signage. Renderings also show that Van Leeuwen intends to offer outdoor seating, which is certain to be a considerable draw given the scenic nature of the neighborhood.
It is too early in the process to proffer a potential opening timeline; the Board of Architectural Review will be convening to consider the plans on March 19. The Van Leeuwen website states only that the storefront is “coming soon”.
Van Leeuwen already has a relatively strong presence in the DMV, with seven locations open and in operation. The ice cream shop offers innovative flavors like lemon poppy seed muffin and malted cookie dough shake alongside more traditional favorites including cookies and cream and vanilla bean.
