The Ginger’s Bread & Co. is expanding to downtown Memphis.
Serving as its primary production facility, the bakery’s second location will open in an expansive 8,800-square-foot space at 64 S Main St. “We’re only taking up two floors,” joked owner Jimmy Hoxie in an interview with What Now Memphis.
Founded in 2020, The Ginger’s is known for its fresh-baked breads and pastries, including sourdough, cookies, croissants, scones, and challah. In addition to the bakery’s typical selection, the new location will offer grab-and-go items like sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads.
The menu will also feature breakfast and lunch, with options including sourdough pancakes, omelets, gourmet grilled cheeses, soups, and grain bowls, plus plenty of coffee and a full espresso bar.
Beyond the bites, the new space will double as a classroom and event venue, accommodating 20 to 25 students for baking workshops, or up to about 40 guests for special gatherings.
To support the expansion, the Downtown Memphis Commission’s Center City Development Corp. awarded Hoxie a $30,000 Retail Tenant Improvement Grant on March 19, 2025. The funds will cover interior and exterior upgrades such as new flooring, lighting, paint, and mechanical improvements.
After finalizing details in a March 20 meeting, Hoxie plans to begin construction and establish an opening timeline as work progresses. Once it debuts, The Ginger’s Bread & Co. will operate downtown daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the kitchen closing at 5 p.m.
