Play Cafe & Lounge, located at 2825 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs, is undergoing a change of ownership. Matt Irby, the original owner, is passing the baton to Dave Troemel and partner Jun, according to posts from the company on Facebook.
“We’re so excited to introduce ourselves as the new owners of Play Cafe & Lounge — a space we truly love and are thrilled to carry forward with heart and purpose…From the moment I walked in, it felt like home, and owning a place like this has been a long-time dream of mine,” they wrote last week.
Irby, who opened the concept in 2023, plans to still remain involved with the venue. Its website states it is still open daily, Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
The business has biscuits, puff tarts, and cookies, and will be adding freshly baked pastries sourced from a local baker. It will continue to be a community hangout spot for live music, artist exhibitions, and trivia.
Troemel is a transplant to SoCal from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has an extensive background in marketing and in the dry-cleaning industry, owning up to 45 locations at one point.
