Thrift lovers in Hiram are in luck, with a new location of a nationwide clothing store franchise planned for the city northwest of Atlanta.
Uptown Cheapskate is coming to 4484 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway. The clothing resale store is planned for suite 103, a tenant space formerly occupied by Cycology Bike Shop. The store will be about 3,000 square feet, according to construction plans.
At Uptown Cheapskate, visitors can purchase and sell pre-owned clothing, shoes and accessories. The stores feature women’s and men’s apparel.
The concept first opened in Salt Lake City in 2009. It was founded by Chelsea Sloan Carroll and Scott Sloan, whose parents, Brent and Shauna Sloan, founded another resale franchise, Kid to Kid. The siblings were inspired to start a similar franchise, geared toward teens and young adults and with a “chic vibe and upscale approach.”
The first franchised location opened just a few months after the first store. There are now more than 100 Uptown Cheapskate locations across the U.S., including 14 in Georgia. A store is also in the works in Statesboro.
