A popular gas station and convenience store with plans to grow in the Peach State appears to have another location in the works.

Wawa is proposed for a space in Leesburg off U.S. Highway 82, according to construction documents. It would include a one-story convenience store, fuel pumps and parking spaces.

There are more than 1,000 Wawa locations across several states, mostly on the East Coast. In addition to gas and typical convenience store fare, Wawa is known for its hoagies, breakfast sandwiches and coffee beverages, as well as hot items like burgers, chicken sandwiches and pizza.

Wawa began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey before evolving into a dairy production business and eventually a food market in the 20th century.

There are several locations open now in Georgia, with more on the way. The first opened in Bainbridge in November 2024, followed by locations in Brunswick and Jesup. Hinesville, Pooler, Waycross, Valdosta and Albany are expected to open in 2025.

“We are thrilled to open three stores this year to bring our investment in Georgia to life,” Wawa President Brian Schaller said in a statement.

He continued: “Over the next few years, we will be continuing to expand and invest in the region as we build new stores and connect with new customers in more Georgia communities.”

The Pennsylvania-based company has previously expressed plans to open in “southern and coastal” areas of the state, with plans to build and open 26 stores in Georgia over the next five to eight years, at a pace of about three to four stores per year.
