Mediterranean restaurant cries ‘uncle,’ changes name to ‘The Sivas.’
Café Mezo will soon get a new name, the result of a lawsuit brought on by Café Intermezzo over the businesses’ similar-sounding names.
The newish Mediterranean restaurant in Midtown, at 794 Juniper St. NE, recently submitted several building permit applications to City of Atlanta for new “wall signs” that reflect the restaurant’s new name, The Sivas.
Sivas was termed after the city in central Turkey, Kemal Karsli, Café Mezo’s owner, told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone interview Thursday.
“Sivas is my hometown,” Karsli said. “Plus, it’s easy to say and it’s not going to confuse the people anymore.”
Aside from the name, marketing and a few additional items to the menu, nothing will change at the Mediterranean hotspot (click here to see the updates on the restaurant’s new website.)
Café Mezo is slated to become The Sivas on September 20, according to Karsli.
Sorry to hear that Kemal has to do this in response to a bullying tactic from a tacky place like Intermezzo. Sivas is a great name and the new logo is very sharp.
I’ll glady skip sitting at a rickety little chair and waiting 30 mins for a piece of cake at Intermezzo to spend more money at Sivas (where the service, food, and experience are leaps ahead) to help them pay for their new signage.
