O’Brien’s Market at 839 Roseburg Ave in Modesto has new ownership. State filings show Mohsen Mohamed Obad filed for a new liquor license on September 15, transferring the store’s license into his name. Reached by phone, Obad confirmed to What Now Sacramento that the change amounts to a straightforward ownership transfer, with the store’s concept, products and overall structure staying the same.
Obad said he plans to keep as much of the existing staff as possible, describing the new team as a mix of employees carrying over from the previous ownership along with some coming from his other business interests, though he said those other ventures operate under entirely separate concepts. A new name for the store hasn’t been decided yet.
He specifically wanted to clear up any confusion among regulars about what’s changing. Some customers had already started asking whether the market would shift toward a different ethnic grocery format, either Middle Eastern or Hispanic, and he wanted to make clear that isn’t the plan. The store will continue operating as the same traditional neighborhood market customers already know.
Roseburg Avenue sits in a residential stretch of Modesto, where a corner market like O’Brien’s has long served as a convenient stop for nearby households picking up everyday groceries and essentials without needing to drive to a larger chain store.
