A Jamaican restaurant is in the works for Stone Mountain

Sophie’s Jamaican Restaurant & Grill is planned for 5370 Stone Mountain Highway, according to a permit filed in Gwinnett County. It would occupy 1,845 square feet. 

The restaurant will join Stone Mountain Square, a shopping center anchored by stores such as Marshalls and Big Lots. It’s located near Stone Mountain Park. 

Sophia Whyte, who runs Sophie’s Jamaican Restaurant, did not respond to requests for an interview. 

According to its Facebook page, Sophie’s has operated as a food truck. It serves dishes such as jerk chicken, oxtail, spicy curried goat and coconut curry shrimp, according to an online menu

“We’re on a mission to provide our city with authentic Jamaican cuisines,” says the restaurant’s website
