Two metro Atlanta Walmart stores are set to close next month.
The Walmart stores in Marietta at 3101 Roswell Road and in Dunwoody at 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Road are expected to close July 12, 2024, including the pharmacies.
The closures are due to these particular stores not financially performing as expected, said a communications director for the company.
Across both stores, nearly 400 associates are affected. Employees are eligible for transfer and will be paid through Sept. 20, 2024. After that date, if they do not transfer, eligible associates will receive severance.
No additional closures are currently planned for the region.
There are nearly 5,000 Walmart stores across the U.S., including six remaining locations in the Marietta area and nine stores within a 15-mile radius of the Dunwoody area.
I really wish they weren’t closing the Ashford Dunwoody location. Now, we’ll be stuck with the less clean, less organized Chamblee Tucker location where parking and traffic will be even more of a nightmare. They should have closed that one instead.
Maybe the one on Mansell Road will suffice.
