A site in Griffin is swapping burgers for coffee.

Minnesota-based Caribou Coffee Company has a new location of the coffee chain in the works in the Spalding County city.

The company was recently seeking a general manager for the upcoming location, but at the time, the exact address was “coming soon.” Now, construction documents indicate that Caribou Coffee is planned for 721 W Taylor Street. The space was formerly occupied by the fast-food restaurant Checkers.

According to the documents, the approximately 724-square-foot Caribou Coffee will be only a drive-thru.

Caribou Coffee began in 1992 and now has more than 800 locations worldwide, both corporate-owned and franchised. There are currently six locations in Georgia, plus two outposts at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The menu includes a lineup of hot and iced espresso beverages, tea, energy drinks, and food items like breakfast and lunch sandwiches, bagels and pastries.

The new Griffin location isn’t the first time a closed fast-food joint has been converted into a Caribou Coffee; the location in Loganville at 4360 Atlanta Highway used to be a Hardee’s.

Caribou Coffee is part of Panera Brands.
