A familiar name in fast-casual American dining could be expanding in Greater Boston.
According to The Patriot Ledger (via Boston Restaurant Talk), Shake Shack has signed a letter of intent to open a new location at 125 Union St, at the former Motel 6 site in Braintree.
The proposed 4,251-square-foot standalone space would include a 150-seat dining area and a dedicated drive-thru lane. The restaurant would open in the eastern portion of a new retail development that may also house a Cava, though both projects are still in the early planning phases.
Originally launched as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park, Shake Shack debuted its first permanent location in 2004. The eatery is known for its smash-style Angus beef ShackBurgers, crinkle-cut fries, and hand-spun milkshakes.
Shake Shack already operates several locations in Greater Boston, but its only current South Shore outpost is at the Derby Street Shops in Hingham.
