Big Hug Hospitality, a Toronto-based restaurant group responsible for MIMI Chinese, Sunny’s Chinese, and the recently opened Linny’s, is preparing to open a new concept called Linny’s Luncheonette in Toronto’s Ossington neighbourhood, located at 174 Ossington Ave.
Founded in 2019 by culinary director David Schwartz and Brandon Marek of Harlo Entertainment, Big Hug Hospitality has gained attention for its innovative approach to regional Chinese cuisine and commitment to hospitality. Now, after launching their latest venture, Linny’s, last September, the group is ready to expand on its success with a sister concept next door, called Linny’s Luncheonette.
Expected to open on May 9, the new concept will feature sandwiches made with the signature hand-cut pastrami served at Linny’s, accompanied only by mustard, as well as smoked fish sandwiches, karnatzel, potato salad, and coleslaw, according to YourCityWithin. There will also be plenty of knishes, cookies, and house pickles. To drink, customers will find classic Vernor’s ginger ale and Cott’s black cherry soda. Those who want to take something home with them to remember the experience can purchase bottles of hot sauce and jars of pastrami spice on-site.
This is a massive accomplishment for Big Hug Hospitality, whose portfolio includes several acclaimed establishments. MIMI Chinese, located in Toronto’s Yorkville neighborhood, offers a modern take on traditional Chinese dishes, earning Michelin recognition. Sunny’s Chinese, situated in Kensington Market, provides a casual dining experience inspired by Chinese street food. Linny’s, a deli-inspired steakhouse, brings a nostalgic yet contemporary dining experience to the city. In December 2024, the group expanded internationally with the opening of MIMI Chinese in Miami Beach, marking its first venture outside Canada.
