Laidrey Coffee Roasters, the San Fernando Valley’s first majority woman-owned specialty coffee roastery and café, is set to open its third location in Agoura Hills, California on May 1st. Founder and co-owner Gacia Tachejia opened Laidrey Coffee Roasters in Tarzana in January 2022 and expanded to a second location in Encino in July 2023.
The Agoura café will offer a full lineup of craft coffee drinks made with Laidrey’s signature roasts, including brewed coffee, single-origin pour-overs, cold brew on draft, specialty lattes made with house-crafted syrups, and even CBD or mushroom-infused coffee. Guests can also enjoy a curated selection of seasonal teas and tea lattes. The food menu will include artisan pastries baked daily by local businesses Larder and Chaumont, sweet and savory made-to-order toasts on freshly baked vegan sourdough bread, the signature Laidrey Breakfast Sandwich, breakfast burritos from Sobuneh, and more. The grab-n-go fridge will be stocked with vegan and gluten-free options, including protein bowls and chia seed parfaits for those on the go.
The 2,000-square-foot space includes seating for 30 and outlets at nearly every seat. Two sets of retail shelves feature Laidrey’s house-roasted coffee beans, cold brew kits, and subscription boxes, along with café merch and handmade goods from local women-owned businesses. The green tiled coffee bar was modeled after a kitchen island, with bar seating along each side. The space is intended to be a “third place” – a comfortable, community-driven environment where guests can linger and connect.
Gacia started roasting coffee in her garage to save herself a detour on her commute to work as a behavioral research scientist. She deepened her knowledge of the process by training with specialty coffee legends David Meyers and Probat. A mentor encouraged Gacia to share her expertise with the community and turn her newfound passion into a business. Four years after her roasting journey began, Gacia started Laidrey as a coffee cart, with her partners Marisa Briones and Paul Burgis, a beverage industry professional. The cart frequented local farmers’ markets in the Valley and quickly gained popularity within the community.
“It’s incredible to see how far Laidrey has come since our early coffee cart days,” says Gacia, founder and owner of the café in a statement. “With this third location, we’re deepening our roots in the community, and it brings me so much joy to share our specialty offerings with those who have supported us along the way – while continuing to welcome new customers every day.”
Quality and sustainability are at the heart of Laidrey’s mission. Gacia partners with coffee farmers who hand-pick each coffee cherry and practice environmentally responsible harvesting. She is especially committed to ethical sourcing, paying a premium for beans from some of the world’s most renowned regions to ensure fair wages and opportunities to farmers, 70% of whom are women. Due to its success, the Laidrey coffee business has expanded its assortment of roasted beans to wholesale in addition to the cafés, with the beans being sold at restaurants, neighborhood markets, and hotels across the city, as well as Laidrey’s online arm that also offers a subscription model and gift bundles.
“At the end of the day, I’m most excited about the community and connection that coffee brings,” says Gacia. “As a mother, I know how grounding a quiet moment with a great cup of coffee can be. This space begins and ends with a celebration of gathering and the things that matter most.”
Laidrey Agoura Hills is located at 5021 Kanan Rd and will be open daily from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.
