After more than a decade, in a cozy corner of Crosby, La Casita Taqueria & Refresqueria is expanding in a big way. Located at 106 E Reidland Ave, the restaurant has overcome hurdles along the way, but now is gearing up to grow alongside the community that’s embraced it as a local staple.
Co-Owner Genesis Abrego confirmed the upcoming expansion, sharing that it’s been a long time in the making. “It was a seafood place before, and very small when we took it over 11 years ago,” she said. “It’s been a dream to expand and it’s definitely been a process to get to this point.” The current location seats just six tables and includes one restroom, but the expansion will increase capacity to at least 20 tables—possibly more—and introduce a second restroom for added comfort.
The family-run business, co-owned by Abrego’s brother and mother, will also be introducing a third-party delivery option and teasing a refreshed menu, though exact additions are still under wraps. The expansion will also bring more parking, which will accommodate the extra capacity without changing the heart of what has made La Casita so loved.
Importantly, the restaurant plans to remain open throughout construction, which is expected to begin by the end of this year. If all goes according to plan, the expanded space will be ready by Summer 2026. A brand-new website is also in development to match the restaurant’s next chapter. For now, patrons and future fans can follow along their process on their Facebook.
