Gus Tacos, a popular Mexican street food chain in Toronto known for its authentic flavors and straightforward menu, is set to open two new locations in Toronto this month.

The first location will move into the former home of Popeyes at 1955 Queen Street East in the Beaches neighborhood, with an expected opening between June 9 and 15, according to BlogTO. This is just the beginning for the company, as Gus Tacos is set to open another location at 3185 Yonge Street in the Yonge and Lawrence area by the end of June 2025. These additions will bring the total number of Gus Tacos locations in the city to nine.

Founded in 2019 by cousins Emilio and Augustine Morales, the first location opened in Kensington Market. Since then, the concept has gained rapid popularity, resulting in its expansion throughout the city. Today, Gus Tacos operates multiple locations, including spots in Kensington Market, Parkdale, Bloor West, The Well, Scarborough, and Etobicoke. All locations have a menu that features a variety of traditional Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and chilaquiles.

When these two new locations open, customers can choose from proteins like pastor, carnitas, barbacoa, chilorio, and battered shrimp, all served on handmade corn tortillas. The chilaca, a flour tortilla filled with meat, cheese, and a banana pepper, is considered one of the most popular items on the menu. House-made salsas and sides, such as guacamole and chips, complement the offerings. Beverage options include Jarritos, Mexican Coca-Cola, and agua frescas like horchata and jamaica.
