Let’s taco-bout a new opening!

Pequeno Cantina is expanding its footprint to downtown Detroit at 1521 Broadway St.

This will be the second location for owner Frank and Sevyn Blackman with the first situated at 19329 Livernois. Blackman hopes the more they expand, the more there will be a play on words with the catchy name.

“Pequeño means small or little in Spanish, so it’s like a play on words — like ‘I’m going to go to the little Mexican restaurant on Livernois, I’m going to go to the little Mexican restaurant on Broadway.’ So it’s like a small version that has Mexican fare but all this energy inside,” Blackman told What Now Detroit.

While this location will take on the same concept of a street taco and tequila bar, there will be a new addition to this location: a pizza oven. Blackman plans to introduce Mexican style pizzas to Broadway.

The menu will also include favorites like the waffle fry nachos which consists of guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, protein of choice and house queso on top of waffle fries. They also will have popular items like the shrimp and lobster quesadillas and mexican wings.

The Broadway location, similar to the original, will have two themes – the Day of the Dead, an after dark side and then the happiness in the daytime.

“We have all walks of life going through here, all different cultures–I think that we’ve really created something special,” Blackman said.

He said his long term goal is to have 10 Pequeno Cantina’s throughout the city of Detroit.
