When a restaurant opens next to a fitness studio or gym, the restaurant usually offers fitness-friendly foods, and that’s the case with Downtown Acai, a health and wellness café getting set to open in Lafayette Parish. Located in Youngsville, Downtown Acai is actually owned by the same owners as the Gracie Jiu Jitsu studio located next door. According to Developing Lafayette, the cafe will sell acai bowls, smoothies, pitaya bowls, and energy drinks. What Now New Orleans has reached out for more information.

According to a post on the Downtown Acai Facebook page, Cortney Meyers is the principal owner. His passion for acai started with a 2014 trip to California for Gracie Jiu Jitsu that included his first stop at an acai café. Since then, Meyers’ jiu jitsu trips to various cities have always included stops at the local acai café. Renovations of the Downtown Acai space are currently underway, and an announcement on the opening date should be coming soon.
