Mimi Garden is preparing to open its third SoCal location at 3142 W Balboa Blvd. in Newport Beach, according to liquor licensing records. The restaurant is moving into a beachside space just steps from the Newport Pier.
The business, owned by Daniel and Anna Qian, confirmed the opening to What Now OC. A representative told the publication that construction should be completed by next week, and inspections will be scheduled after that. The liquor license application is expected to be approved in August. Hiring is underway.
Founded in Rancho Santa Margarita in July 2024, the chain then opened a Lake Forest eatery this spring. It is known for authentic Taiwanese cuisine: handmade xiao long bao (soup dumplings), steamed buns, and wok-fired entrées. Mimi Garden’s menu also has a wide selection of wine, beer from the tap as well as bottled, and sake-based cocktails.
“At Mimi Garden, we believe food is at its best when it’s made by hand and shared with heart. We’re excited to bring our signature dumplings and hospitality to the Newport Beach community, Daniel said.
