Mission Bagel, the San Diego food truck renowned for its fresh, handmade bagels, is set to open its first brick-and-mortar location at 1344 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach.
The company’s first storefront will take over the former home of The Friendly. What Now San Diego previously reported on Mission Bagel’s plans to launch a food truck, with an original target to open earlier this year. While the food truck remains open and operating at 1608 Grand Avenue, at the corner of Ingraham and Grand in Pacific Beach, owner Gabe Rubin confirms with What Now San Diego that the company is now working to open the physical location around Labor Day 2025.
Mission Bagel is a family-run business founded by siblings Gabe and Hannah, who grew up with bagels as a cultural tradition in Cincinnati. After living in San Diego for ten years, Gabe saw a gap in the market for authentic, chewy, golden bagels and started the company during the pandemic as a delivery and catering service. Hannah and her husband Dante later joined the effort, helping expand Mission Bagel as a food truck in Pacific Beach.
The menu features simple, fresh bagels accompanied by classic spreads. Customers can expect a variety of bagel options made with high-quality ingredients, including both classic and creative combinations. The bagels are prepared fresh daily through a process that combines boiling and baking to achieve chewy, golden perfection, maintaining the brand’s commitment to quality and consistency. Customers can expect all of this when the new brick-and-mortar opens later this year.
