A new restaurant, Azulejo Cocina Mexicana, is preparing to open at 2700 North Litchfield Road in Goodyear.

The new restaurant will be taking over the former home of Village Inn, which closed in October 2024, according to a recent liquor license application. While details about Azulejo Cocina Mexicana have been scarce, recent city filings have revealed more information about the upcoming establishment. According to a recent City Council meeting, Azulejo Cocina Mexicana has applied for a new Series 12 restaurant liquor license, which permits the sale of all types of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption, provided the restaurant earns at least 40 percent of its revenue from food sales.

The application is awaiting final approval from the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control. The restaurant’s application went through the required public posting process in June 2025, and residents or nearby businesses raised no objections. Internal reviews by the police department and other city departments have also cleared the business to move forward. The building underwent construction, which was completed in early July 2025. However, the exact opening date for Azulejo Cocina Mexicana has not yet been announced.

City officials confirmed the location meets all state requirements regarding proximity to schools and childcare centers, according to meeting details. The restaurant’s management team has completed the necessary state-approved liquor training, and they plan to have a manager on site at all times to ensure responsible service. Azulejo Cocina Mexicana is expected to introduce new dining options to the area, with more details on the menu and opening day to be shared as the restaurant finalizes its preparations.
