You’ve already heard of Chef James Trees, of course. He’s the chef that brought Las Vegas some of its favorites mainstays, restaurants like Esther’s Kitchen, Ada’s Food + Wine, and Bar Boheme.

“James Trees is a chef in the old school meaning of the word,” says the Esther’s Kitchen website. “He believes that the craft of cooking has to come before the art: ‘Knowledge is power in the kitchen.’ This has been the foundation in the development of his cooking and his work since he was fourteen. James was born and raised in Las Vegas, where he began his culinary career at Las Vegas High School, earning an internship at the Mirage after his first two years of Basic Training. With a combination of humility and hard work, he earned the respect of chefs that took him in and invested their time to teach him proper technique.”

But now, according to coverage by Las Vegas Weekly, Trees is at work on the next step in his culinary career, planning to open a new steakhouse.

The Las Vegas Weekly coverage describes the new restaurant as “an original steakhouse concept to replace the recently closed, 50th-floor VooDoo Steak at the Rio.”

What Now reached out to the chef on Thursday to ask about plans for the new steakhouse, which the coverage says will be called High Steaks Vegas, with an opening planned for the fall. Trees was not immediately available for comment.
