The Boy & The Bear, a Los Angeles-based coffee roaster known for its Colombian-sourced beans, is opening new locations in Gardena and South Pasadena.
The upcoming Gardena location, known as the Blue Store HQ, will be located at 17920 S. Western Avenue and is scheduled to open in August 2025. In South Pasadena, the company is planning the Terracotta Store, which is expected to open in the first quarter of 2026. Both locations are part of the company’s continued expansion throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The company is also planning to expand into San Diego next year.
When these locations open, customers can expect a full menu of specialty Colombian coffee drinks, including hand-brewed pour-overs, espresso-based beverages like cortados and flat whites, and seasonal cold brews. The cafes will also serve house-made pastries, such as guava cheese croissants and vegan banana bread, along with a rotating selection of retail coffee bags sourced from Colombia. Non-dairy milk options and merchandise will also be available.
Founded by Andres Piñeros in Colombia in 2012, The Boy & The Bear launched its first U.S. location in Redondo Beach in 2016 after Piñeros moved to Los Angeles to focus on specialty Colombian coffee. The company now operates cafes in Culver City, Westchester, Pasadena, Redondo Beach, and Sherman Oaks, with a roasting facility based in Redondo Beach. All coffee is sourced directly from Colombian farmers and roasted in-house.
Each location features the brand’s signature design elements, including copper finishes and reclaimed wood, reflecting Colombian landscapes and culture. The Boy & The Bear’s logo, inspired by a Swedish folk tale, represents friendship and connection, core values the brand aims to promote in its cafes. The Gardena and South Pasadena locations are expected to follow the same concept, offering customers a specialty coffee experience rooted in Colombian tradition.
