The Melt, a fast-casual chain known for reimagining American comfort food, may be planning to open a new location in San Marcos at 151 S Las Posas Road, Suite #170.

The proposed site is currently home to a Five Guys in the Grand Plaza Shopping Center, according to documents submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. While the company has not officially confirmed the expansion, the submitted paperwork suggests strong interest in growing its presence in San Diego County.

If finalized, the San Marcos location would mark The Melt’s fourth outpost in the San Diego area. The chain currently operates locations in the Del Mar Highlands, the Gaslamp Quarter, and La Jolla. Each site offers the brand’s signature lineup of indulgent comfort food in a fast-casual setting. No official opening date has been announced for the potential San Marcos location, and representatives from The Melt have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Founded in California in 2011, The Melt has earned a reputation for its tech-forward kitchens and indulgent menu of MeltBurgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, crispy chicken, and comfort-food sides like garlic parmesan fries and milkshakes. The brand continues to expand across the West, including recent announcements of new locations in Long Beach, Hollywood Park, and Arizona State University’s Novus Innovation Corridor.

San Marcos’ Grand Plaza Shopping Center could be an ideal new home for The Melt, thanks to its high foot traffic and strategic location. Situated near major retailers like Nordstrom Rack, Best Buy, and BevMo, the plaza attracts a steady stream of shoppers daily. The center is also conveniently located just off Highway 78 and close to California State University, San Marcos, attracting students, locals, and commuters alike. With a mix of retail, dining, and entertainment nearby, it’s a prime spot for grabbing a quick, satisfying meal.
