A new event venue is emerging in Charleston following a restaurant closure.

The Stars Grill Room on Upper King Street is transforming into Events at 495, a two-story, three-space venue, The Post and Courier reports.

Heather Greene, the location’s operations manager, told the outlet the former restaurant occasionally hosted private events, but growing demand for larger gatherings often meant turning groups away. The revamped space now doubles the capacity and features full kitchens on each floor, accommodating rentals of all sizes.

“For any restaurant in Charleston, costs have gone up, so our bottom line is shrinking,” Greene told The Post and Courier. “We have been thinking about this for a while and decided to pull the trigger.”

For a touch of nostalgia, The Stars Grill Room’s neon sign will remain, while new signage for Events at 495 is planned in the coming months.

The kitchen will be led by a former banquet sous chef from Kiawah Island Golf Resort, and Tyler Jacobs will continue as director of food and beverage during the rebrand.

Greene told the outlet the goal is to retain as much of the serving and kitchen staff as possible.

The rooftop Satellite Bar will stay open, and with the closure of The Stars Grill Room, it will introduce an expanded menu featuring flatbread pizzas and smash burgers. A new side entrance will allow private events to remain separate from the public rooftop space.

What Now Charleston reached out to Events at 495, however the team has not yet responded. This article may be updated.
