A taste of aloha is headed to the City of Trees.
Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice recently announced plans to open its first Sacramento shop. While the exact address hasn’t been disclosed, local franchisees and husband-and-wife team Jonnie Dang and Tammy Nguyen, who already operate Ululani’s Stockton location, told What Now Sacramento that the new outpost will open in Old Sacramento.
“Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice is excited to announce that we are expanding to Sacramento,” the duo said. “While we are not releasing the specific address at this time, we can confirm that the new location will be situated in Old Sacramento.”
Founded in 2008 by David Yamashiro, Ululani Yamashiro, and Brad Edgerton, Ululani’s started as a tiny 65-square-foot shop in Lahaina, Maui. Today, the franchise has grown into a sweet empire of 15 shops across Hawaii, California, Florida, and Texas.
Ululani’s suffered devastating losses in 2023 when the Maui wildfires destroyed its Lahaina warehouse and two shops. Still, the team continues to rebuild and expand, with three new openings currently in the works, including Sacramento.
Known for its light, fluffy ice and handcrafted syrups, Ululani’s has elevated classic shave ice into an art form. The brand offers more than 60 flavors made from real fruit purées, pure cane sugar, and ultra-purified water. An innovative “poking technique” creates tunnels that carry syrup deep into the ice, ensuring every bite bursts with bold, fruity flavor.
Fan-favorite combos include the Haleakala (leche, coconut, and a free snow cap), Sunset Beach (passion fruit, orange, mango, guava), and No Ka Oi (mango, coconut, and passion fruit). The menu also includes vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free, and allergen-friendly options.
Dang and Nguyen told What Now Sacramento that more details—including the official address and opening date—will be announced soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
