A new yet-to-be-named counter-service concept from local chef Todd Ginsberg and restaurateur Josh Kim is heading to South Downtown at 185 Mitchell St., according to a recent announcement from South Downtown.

Ginsberg told What Now Atlanta that he has had a longstanding fascination with diners. He recalls going to diners during his youth in New Jersey, and he began to take a deeper interest in the diner model right before he went to culinary school.

“I really started loving the vibe and what they stood for,” Ginsberg said. “Anybody can go in and grab something as simple as a black coffee and a slice of pie, or they can go in for a meal. As diners have taken a culinary step forward — doing simple foods really well — that’s something that I love doing. That was the inspiration for the concept.”

Expect to see plenty of windows and natural light in the 900-square-foot space. The atmosphere will feel like an updated version of the diner.

The location will offer an all-day breakfast menu as well as a selection of four salads and five or six sandwiches. The menu will also feature Ginsberg and Kim’s well-known sour cream doughnuts made in house.

“South Downtown and the future residential and businesses really will need a breakfast and lunch spot down there where they can go two or three times a week and get a breakfast sandwich, a drip coffee or a doughnut,” Ginsberg said. “That’s what we’re looking forward to providing.”

Ginsberg is known on the Atlanta restaurant scene for spots such as The General Muir and Fred’s Meat and Bread. He joined Kim as a partner in Bloom Roadside in Milton several years ago, where they serve their popular doughnuts.

“Josh and I have been looking for a second space for the past 12 months,” Ginsberg said. “When South Downtown invited us to come see the space and shared their vision, we loved the project and wanted to be part of it.”

The forthcoming spot is expected to open in April 2026.
