Bar owner Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as Mr Lyan, is preparing to open Seed Library New York, his first cocktail bar location in New York City. In partnership with Lore Group and Renwick Hospitality, Mr Lyan will open the spot in November on the lower ground floor of Hotel Park Ave. in Nomad, according to a release.

The spot will draw inspiration from the original Seed Library, which Mr Lyan opened in East London in 2022. The New York location will aim to offer a warm, creative atmosphere and innovative beverage program that offers a nod to the extensive history of New York cocktails. Expect to see both reimagined classics and original cocktails offering a variety of flavors, in addition to low-intervention wines, craft beers, artisanal spirits and saké.

The bar will offer a limited food menu featuring bar snacks crafted in collaboration with Renwick Hospitality.

Lore Group creative director Jacu Strauss is behind the design, focusing on organic textures, natural materials and elegant design elements.

Mr Lyan opened his first bar, White Lyan, in London in 2013, which immediately snagged awards like World’s Best New International Bar in 2014 at Tales the Cocktail and a shoutout on the World’s 50 Best Bars list in 2014 and 2015. He opened multiple other London bars in the subsequent years and made the leap to the U.S. in 2020 with the award-winning Silver Lyan, which opened in the Riggs Hotel in Washington, D.C. This will be the second U.S. location for Mr Lyan’s international brand.

Hotel Park Ave. opened earlier this year under the ownership of Lore Group. It features 189 guest rooms and the hotel is currently rolling out its food and beverage offerings, including the forthcoming Seed Library.
