Telefèric Barcelona is one of two restaurants set to open next Spring at the Westfield UTC Mall at 4545 La Jolla Village Drive. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the opening is part of a 70,000 square-foot expansion at the San Diego Mall.
The new restaurant will sit on the floor level above, Canadian upscale chain, Joey.
According to its website, since its inception in Barcelona in 1992, Telefèric Barcelona has evolved into a top dining destination that “celebrates the diversity and innovation of Spanish cuisine in a festive and casual atmosphere.”
The upscale Spanish restaurant currently has ten locations, including one in Barcelona, and a few throughout upscale communities in California like Walnut Creek and Palo Alto. Their website states that they opened their seventh location in the US in 2024.
Telefèric Barcelona’s menu includes a variety of tapas and specialized paella dishes, along with hearty plates, salads, and desserts. Along with classic tapas, such as pollo empanadas and ham croquetas, the eatery offers five kinds of paella. Each dish can serve two. Prices start at 39 bucks for the veggie option and go as high as $62 for the lobster one.
The luxury Spanish independent restaurant chain is run by two siblings: Xavi and Mari Padorsa, who, according to their website, opened their restaurant in Sant Cugat.
Now set to open its first in San Diego, Telefèric Barcelona continues its expansion toward success. The sit-down experience is part of the third phase of the mall’s expansion. No exact opening date has been shared yet, but you can expect to hear more details as we draw closer to spring 2026.
